24 MARCH ’21 | PRAY FOR AUSTRALIA

Dear prayer partners,

Over the past week, heavy rainfall has led to some of the worst flooding in decades in Australia’s state of New South Wales. Surging rivers have burst their banks, swallowing homes, roads, bridges, and farmland. Around 18,000 people have been evacuated across New South Wales, emergency services fear up to 54,000 people could be displaced. Almost a metre of rain has fallen in some parts of the state. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison warned of more rain and days of danger to come as the emergency became not “just a coastal event”.

Emergency services are strained – the military has been deployed to help access cut-off communities. Thousands have been told to evacuate their homes as the forecast predicted the rainy weather would spread to more inland areas. Up to 38 parts of the state have been declared natural disaster areas.  As many as 10 million people were under weather warnings in every state and territory except Western Australia.

The Premier of New South Wales, Gladys Berejiklian said: “Communities who were battered by the bushfires are now being battered by the floods and a deep drought prior to that. I don’t know any time in our state’s history where we’ve had these extreme weather conditions in such quick succession in the middle of a pandemic…”

Please join with us in praying for Australia.

“The wonderful thing about praying is that you leave a world of not being able to do something and enter God’s realm where everything is possible.” (Corrie ten Boom)
