WEEK 10: “When It Has All Been Said and Done”
“The blameless spend their days under the Lord’s care, and their inheritance will endure forever.” (Psalm 37:18, NIV)
Have you ever thought about the legacy that you will leave behind? “Isn’t this a bit of a morbid subject to ponder upon?” you may ask. Talking about death and legacy is probably one of the most sobering conversations you can have with others, but most of all yourself. There is a song called “When It’s All Been Said and Done” by Robin Mark and the lyrics include the following:
“When it’s all been said and done
There is just one thing that matters
Did I do my best to live for truth?
Did I live my life for You?
When it’s all been said and done
All my treasures will mean nothing
Only what I have done
For love’s rewards
Will stand the test of time.”
History reminds us of the many legacies of evil ideologies implemented by corrupt men who we wished never walked the face of the earth. Their legacy is a trail of death, leaving broken and embittered people on earth for generations after them.
You and I have the power to change the here and now. We may not be able to change history, and yet the legacy we leave behind will be part of history. May the legacy we leave behind find its full embodiment in others – may what they have seen and heard from us enthuse them to live for Christ on earth. May our legacy inspire others to “be Christ”, so through them His glory may be visible.
